There is a looming ordeal causing a few t-shirt owners to stress out a little and it is termed “t-shirt bacon neck.” That just means that the neck collar is scrunched up imitating curled up bacon. There are no-fail things you can do to prevent bacon necking of your fave tees. I am going to tell you how to vanquish bacon neck from your life. Spread the news to someone else who might be suffering.
So you just bought that new tee shirt with your favorite quote, movie or tv character, or screen print pattern. You wear it and the neck of the shirt gets stretched out eventually. Two things can happen at this point. The tee can go right back to shape if it is a high quality one, or the tee will shrivel up to look like you just fried it in the frying pan. This is what is meant by t-shirt bacon neck, a term that it was given after the Michael Jordan Hanes bacon neck commercial from a while ago. If the first scenario came about consider yourself lucky and ignore this posting. However, if the latter thing happened then don’t sweat it. You have arrived at the right place before you look like a buffoon.
Why Does T-Shirt Bacon Neck Happen?
You want to look your best all the time, right? If your tee shirts neck looks scrunched up or wavy like a slab of bacon your shirt is going to look sloppy and you will come across to others as a dumb slob. If you have a girlfriend they notice these little things like this. A job interview? Forget that! So you ask yourself “Why do t-shirts bacon?” Give that stretched t-shirt collar an ass kicking! Heres the answer:
Basically, this means you weren’t caring for your tee shirts enough and the neckline just wore out. You let it stretch and stretch until it had no give left and it started to morph and contort. There really isn’t much to do at this point. It’s probably too late to save that shirt. The best thing to do is prevent it entirely from happening again, right?
What Do You Need To Prevail Against T-Shirt Bacon Neck?
The only things you need to prevent the bacon t-shirt effect is an effective washing machine, a dryer, and a good folding technique.
The washing machine in a very expensive piece of machinery so make sure you do your research before making this investment. Some of the best ones on the market are the less heard of Electrolux EFLS617SIW and the Samsung WA48J7700AW. I own a Kenmore 26132 Top Load Washer and it is pretty colossal. It is quiet, doesn’t shake the floor with vibrations like our previous old one, and is HE(high energy) efficient.
A good dryer is also critical. You don’t want hardly any damp to be on your clothes when it is pulled out. The wetness can eventually shrink the cloth which can cause t-shirt bacon neck to occur. Look for dryers with the HE tag to be energy conservative. Some of the best I’ve seen(and under the $500 mark) is the Samsung -7.5 Cu. Ft. 9-cycle Electric Dryer In White ($499.99 if you hurry, usually $799.99) and the Kenmore 22352.
And last but not least, you need a good folding technique to keep that neck from taking a beating and getting stretched out. No hangers! Hangers over time are partly what causes that bacon effect in the first place as it stretches your whole shirt out. Again this doesn’t happen instantly but over time. So it is a good idea to have a proper folding technique at your disposal instead. I will do an article on this in another post soon.
