5 Saturday Night Live Tee Shirts Causing Hard Laughs
Saturday Night Live has been entertaining audiences since 1975. They have kept us laughing and inspired many hilarious Saturday Night Live Tee Shirts as well. There is a funny duo of cheerleaders on here, an outrageous motivational speaker, a rocker who is out of his league, a guy who hosts a tv show in his parent’s basement, and a confused, androgynous misfit.
You will love some of the really good T-shirts that have been created based on the late-night sketch comedy. We are going to be talking about 5 of the most popular skits from SNL that a T-shirt is based on. These are just some of the great looking T-shirts that have been made to represent this hilarious and sometimes outrageous program
It’s Pat Tee Shirt
This skit is a classic from the Saturday Night Live lineup. Pat is a character from the nineties played by Julia Sweeney. The joke to this skit is that no one can decide on whether she is a man or a woman. Pat actually goes out of his/her own way to deliberately confuse people when they try to guess her gender.
He/she has made her appearance in movies(It’s Pat), the SNL show, and also appears on merchandise like T-shirts. The T-shirt above is an example of one of those shirts that Pat appears on. It is light brown with full-color graphics you will love if you are a fan.
The joke is that people are usually very sympathetic towards her unless she tries to talk about sex or relationships, in which he/she is met with looks of disdain or disgust. People will ask questions to her in an attempt to find out the gender, but her answers just serve to frustrate them even more. Pat will complain about being grumpy due to cramps, but then say he/she rode her bike here so his/her calves were killing her.
This is actually my least favorite skit mentioned in this article though. It’s still brilliant, but there are better ones. If you aren’t the biggest fan of this particular sketch and want to know about other Saturday Night Live T-shirts then let’s look at other favorites.
This skit was based around Blue Oyster Cult’s classic hit ”Don’t Fear The Reaper”. Will Ferrell is a band member playing the cowbell in a way to fervent manner. Interestingly, Albert Bouchard, an actual former band member, admitted that their song was missing a certain sound in their top 100 Billboard hit.
Anyway, the cowbell that Ferrell is playing is getting so distracting that the lead singer stops the recording and Bruce Dickinson(played by Christopher Walken) comes out to see what the problem is. Eric Bloom(played by Chris Parnell) explains that the cowbell is distracting. To their utter confusion, Bruce says he thinks there should be more cowbell and tells Gene Frenkle(Ferrell) to really get into the role.
The comical back and forth of the fake bands increasing chagrin, Dickinson repeatedly coming out saying “More Cowbell”, and Ferrell playing it with increasingly incessant vigor made for one of the best sketches in SNL history.
Now, it has inspired a lot of great merchandising opportunities for stores. They have come out with many different types of merchandise with graphics on them featuring “More Cowbell” on them. One such kind of merchandise is the SNL More Cowbell T-shirt. The one pictured is a newer kind of shirt called the sublimated tee shirt that makes it look like you really are dressed as the 1970 fake rock star Will Ferrell aka Gene Frenkle.
This shirt may be more effective for a Halloween costume as opposed to casual wear. Some people may take it to be just a play on 1970’s garb instead of the SNL skit, so it would probably go better as a costume with a Frenkle wig and beard. Some bell-bottoms would be an excellent idea to finish the look. Casual wear not really recommended.
Those Crazy Spartan Cheerleaders
I must just be a big Will Ferrell fan, so here’s another skit with him in it. Show some team spirit with a T-shirt featuring the Spartan Cheerleaders. Unfortunately they never actually made an actual cheerleading squad. That doesn’t mean they don’t have all the spirit of all the other East Lake cheerleaders combined.
This duo made up of Cheri O’ Terry and Will Ferrell have some hilarious made up cheers and aren’t short on energy. So the shirt has a lot of team spirit itself cheering the Spartans all the way to the ping pong state championships. I really like the tee shirts on this act because it is a personal favorite of mine from the show.
This shirt is made of 100% cotton which is very comfortable. The design is lively enough to give you plenty to cheer about as well as the price, which is $17.95. If you enjoyed the wacky cheers this dynamic duo performed throughout the nineties you will love this shirt, too.
Chris Farley’s character Matt Foley made us laugh instantly at his motivational speech. He makes you want to do better so you don’t have to live in a van down by the river. This over-the-top act really got audiences rolling with laughter. The shirt depicting this funny, lovable character would be a humorous way of telling the world that you are a motivational speaker.
Sometimes he was clumsy and fell over tables breaking them instantly. He was also sweaty sometimes and the suit a little too tight, but he made up for those faults with his huge amount of energy. He was a motivational speaker that was a little over his head. He asked one of the kids what he wants to do with his life. The kid replies” Well, I think I want to be a writer”. To this Foley replies to the dad” Well La Dee Da dad, do you see a Bill Shakespeare in the room here”. The father retorts back, “Well, actually we have been trying to encourage him in his writing”. To this Matt Foley replies” WELL DAD I WISH YOU WOULD JUST SHUT YOUR BIG YAPPER!”.
Truth Alert! The Matt Foley character was actually inspired by one of Farley’s Marquette University rugby union teammates of his. That guy is now a Catholic priest in Arlington Heights, a suburb in Chicago. Scary huh?
Farley leaves the crowd laughing just like this tee shirt will leave your friends in stitches and probably doing their own impressions. It is sized all the way from Small to 2xl. I wish it went even higher in size because this is one shirt that would be really humorous for someone with a lot of girth like Chris Farley himself. It is made of 100% cotton which is really comfortable hence why it is used so much on clothing. If you are a huge Farley fan like I am then you will really like this shirt.
“Shwing” Party time can be any time you want with this shirt hand picked by Wayne Campbell himself. That can’t be proven, but we do live in a country of alternative facts. It can be proven, however, that this shirt is “Excellent”. If you want to join Wayne’s World fan club then you need a Wayne’s World T-shirt because Wayne and Garth won’t let you enter their basement otherwise.
You can support this skit and Wayne’s trip to the top of Aurora, Illinois television ratings by rocking an awesome tee shirt that is comfy cotton, gets babes, and is officially licensed by SNL. This shirt shows the Wayne’s World main logo and will keep you full of happy ‘90s memories. “Party on Wayne and party on Garth”.
Did you know?
Some of the characters actually played their instruments in the movie. Dana Carvey actually played the drums and Tia Carrere actually did her own singing and bass playing. Wow, funny and multi-talented!, they should get a job in showbiz.
